We all know pink is the colour of the season and is a statement that always flatters. First came millennial pink and then hot pink or rani pink, as we love to call it. Safe to say, the feted hue is having a moment. And this moment even has a name – Barbiecore. What is it? Simply put, it is the hyper-feminine, pretty-in-pink aesthetic – our favourite doll Barbie’s signature shade. And the whole idea is to channel your inner Miss B with a tonal pink-on-pink look. The hue has a certain energizing quality in addition to being intense but fun too which is why it seems to be driving home a potent point of go-big or go-home. Making the most of this trend were our power couple Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. Ranveer embraced the trend first for a Meta event followed by Deepika who recently donned a hot pink pantsuit for the promotion of her song, Current Laga Re from Ranveer’s upcoming release, Cirkus.
On a larger canvas, Barbiecore often comes across as an unapologetic form of feminism by challenging the whole bimbo aesthetic deliberately. Drawing influences from this moment are Greta Gerwig’s Barbie to cool collabs like Balmain x Barbie and Zara x Barbie. Valentino went to the extent of collaborating with the Pantone Color Institute to immortalize its signature Pink PP hue. Safe to say, internationally the trend has taken over street style, red carpets, and Instagram and we may see more of it in the coming year.
While fashion designers and fashion fans alike are embracing this hyper-pink style to the T, Deepika and Ranveer exemplified what it is like when you and your partner are on the same page style-wise. Here’s a closer look.
Ranveer Singh – Bubblegum chic
Styled by Eka Lakhani, Ranveer’s hot pink tonal look featured a wool sweater worth $1460 (approx. Rs.1,20,860), crepe pants worth $1810 (approx. Rs.1,49,833) layered by wool and silk blend overshirt worth $3470 (approx. Rs.2,87,250). Nappa leather low-top sneakers in the same colour worth $1040 (approx. Rs.86,092) upped the look. Tousled hair and subtle glam accompanied.
Deepika Padukone – Bubblegum pantsuit chic
Separates from the Poland-based brand Magda Butrym featured an oversized double-breasted blazer worth $2065 (approximately INR 1,69,739) and wide-leg flare pants worth $1100 (approximately INR 90,418). Earrings from Joolry by Karishma Mehra, and metallic pink stilettos elevated the vibe. A nude glam and a high ponytail completed her look.

The pink party season has just begun. In sync with Deepika’s much-loved vibe of monochrome, we love how the bright suit with its functionality, cut, silhouette and comfort agree with her.
